The PWSH Jazz Camp is open to all Plano West Cluster students entering grades 9th-12th for the 2023/2024 school year. The camp provides comprehensive studies in jazz combo (small group) playing and improvisation. Our goal is to provide the highest quality experience and education for each student. Students will be placed in groups of similar ability levels to ensure a comfortable learning and playing environment for all. Registration opens May
1st at
7 pm for incoming
12th and 11th graders, and
May 2nd at
7 pm for incoming
10th and 9th graders. Please visit
www.planowestband.org to register. Click on the Plano West Jazz Camp icon on the left-hand side.
Tuition for the camp is $275. We are very fortunate here at Plano West to offer this type of camp with this level of faculty at this price! Similar camps around the country cost $600 for tuition alone! Travel, room-and-board, and meal plans can add total costs to the thousands.
In order to offer the highest quality and specialized experience, spots are limited to the following: (6 small groups)
Saxophone: 8
Trumpet: 8
Trombone: 8
Guitar: 6
Piano: 6
Bass: 6
Drums: 6
Vibes: 3
Due to spots filling up almost immediately, we are spreading out the enrollment dates. Again, Enrollment opens May 1st for incoming 12th and 11th graders, and May 2nd for incoming 10th and 9th graders. Please do not sign up before your appropriate day as you will be removed and refunded your registration minus processing fees.
Once spots are full you may email Mr. Pierce to be put on the waiting list. If there are enough students on the waitlist, we may add an extra group.
If you have any other questions please feel free to contact Preston Pierce - Plano West Director of Jazz Bands/Camp Director at preston.pierce@pisd.edu
EQUIPMENT:
All students, including rhythm section students, will need to bring their own equipment/instruments. This includes amps, cables, and drum set for rhythm section players. Vibes will be provided by PWSH, however, please bring the appropriate mallets.
